What is cookie gilchrist?

Cookie Gilchrist (born Robert Lesley Gilchrist) was a professional American football player who played as a fullback in the American Football League (AFL) and the Canadian Football League (CFL). He was born on May 1, 1935 in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania and passed away on January 10, 2011.

Gilchrist began his professional football career in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1956. He later played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Toronto Argonauts before signing with the AFL's Buffalo Bills in 1962.

During his time with the Buffalo Bills, Gilchrist was a standout player known for his power running style and ability to break tackles. He was named AFL Player of the Year in 1962 and was a five-time AFL All-Star. In 1963, he became the first player in AFL history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a single season.

Gilchrist continued to play in the AFL and later in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins before retiring in 1966. He was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame in 2003.

Off the field, Gilchrist was known for his outspoken personality and advocacy for racial equality and players' rights. He was a trailblazer for African American players in professional football and left a lasting impact on the sport.
